We have been engaged to find a Sr. Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager (FSQA) for a poultry production facility in Lewiston Woodville, NC

Opportunity for a Sr. Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager (FSQA) to oversee a large poultry processing plant in Lewiston, NC.  This person leads the local organization in identifying, progressing and realizing the implementation of Quality / Food Safety Policy and Quality Systems.  The Sr. FSQA Manager will identify and investigate all Quality /Food Safety opportunities covering all products, projects, and processes as well as deliver measurable improvements utilizing Quality Improvement and Continuous Improvement strategies.  Specifically:

Evaluate, modify where necessary and enforce Food Safety and Quality Management systems (FSQMS) to include HACCP, SSOP, FSIS regulations and programs.

  • Provide executive reporting on Food Safety and regulatory compliance and concerns about microbial management with actionable recommendations.  Ensure company’s microbial intervention processes are executed in assigned facilities.
  • Be Subject Matter Expert on methodologies.  Recommend improvements where needed.
  • Strong demonstrated transformational skills (inspiring, problem solving, communicating across multiple organizations, executing) to provide evidence-based leadership, and the ability to utilize these skills with all levels of team members, management and community leaders.
  • Evaluate current staffing to determine strengths and needs.
  • Develop/improve strong collaborative working relationship with sanitation and operations staff.
  • Develop/improve strong working relationship with USDA
  • Will lead and instruct the FSQA team to interface and maintain the use of digital data collection systems and other formats, such as but not limited to SafetyChain, Trace Gains, Power Bi, and other similar systems.

This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) plus 10 years of experience in FSQA.  Other specific requirements include:

  • MUST have at least 5 years of experience in the poultry industry
  • Strong knowledge of (and/or certifications in) food safety and all applicable regulations as required.
  • 10 years of progressive management or leadership experience.
  • 6 years with direct customer interface and support around Quality and Food Safety
  • years’ experience managing requirements around verification programs; NAE, NGMO, Gluten Free, BRC, SQF, HACCP, etc.
  • Strong background in the areas of microbiology and food science
  • Extensive Regulatory (USDA) engagement experience
  • Experience developing and maintaining company records relating to process workflows, USDA, FDA, and other regulatory organizations.
  • Robust knowledge and experience with the application of intervention systems to reduce microbial load and risk throughout poultry processing.
  • Ability to effectively articulate and present the company’s Food Safety and Quality strategy as it relates to senior management, regulatory bodies, customers and copackers.
  • Proven ability to operate successfully in a rapidly growing organization, inclusive of demonstrated ability to coordinate efforts in addressing regulatory issues.
  • Ability to formulate solutions from a broad perspective.
