The Wellington Group has been engaged to find an experienced Director Product Development R&D. We are seeking a strategic leader and visionary manager with hand-on experience in leading product development and corporate wide product and service innovations. Must be a roll up your sleeves and jump in person to learn a new company, technology, people and make assessments to enhance, improve and propel the company through change management and strong leadership

Director Product Development R&D is responsible for leading people and internal resources on the overall corporate vision and strategy for product development and innovations. Must be a strong people leader with experience working with a creative staff on innovative product solutions and implement changes as needed for business growth and objectives.
Position responsibilities:
- Oversees the corporate vision and strategy for the product development lifecycle and new product and services from ideation to commercialization
- Direct all concepts and idealization through feasibility studies and testing to prove reliability for market needs
- Leads other professionals in multiple locations on the future direction of the company’s product development
- Assess tools, systems, resources, locations and staff to ensure optimal operational performance for a key area of the company
The qualified Director Product Development R&D candidate will have:
- Bachelor degree in engineering or other related discipline, MBA is desired
- 8+ years experience with leading product development and innovation
- Experience in paper products or the packaging industry is highly desired
- Must be a visionary, product development experience from ideation to commercialization
- Able to point out product(s) on the market with direct experience in the ideation, development, process management and commercialization
- Requires proven strategic leadership in managing teams of people and outside vendors
- Able to lead a highly-talent team of product developers and highly innovative and creative individuals
- Experienced with Stage Gate technology and processes implementation and management
- Knowledge in Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
- Ability to make executive level decisions and recommendations to Sr Management and external clients
- Experience in GAP analysis, change management and turn-around situations is required
