Director of R&D – Ceramics and Glass. The Wellington Group has been engaged to find a seasoned ceramic or glass industry R&D manager with extensive new product development and innovations experience. Seeking a strategic leader and visionary manager with hand-on experience in leading product development, R&D and corporate wide product innovations. Must be a roll up your sleeves and jump in person to learn a new company, technology, people and make assessments to enhance, improve and propel the company through extensive global growth.
Reporting to the COO, the Director of R&D – Ceramics and Glass will be tasked to define, prepare, lead and execute the R&D organization and manage the complete research and development product portfolio which includes both glass and ceramic (zirconia) products. As the face of R&D, the Director will oversee ideation to commercialization which includes education and training for internal production employees as well as field technicians and others using company products and/or technology.

Director of R&D – Ceramics and Glass Position Requirements:
- Responsible for new product leadership, product line vitality/modifications and developing pipeline of products
- Drive new product development via collaboration with peers across the organization, working closely with the executive management team, sales & marketing, and manufacturing segments, as well as outside consultants, partnerships and industry SMEs
- Manage new product development projects to maximize speed to market, completeness and accuracy
- Provide leadership and creative and strategic oversight throughout the process
- Manage new product development costs to ensure budgetary constraints are met
- Interact with entire staff on trouble-shooting activities and process improvement projects
- Work with Production on the scale-up and transfer or new products to manufacturing and sales
- Develop and present new product ideas and prototypes to management and industry associations
- Responsible for direct management of new product development personnel to include establishment of objectives, key work assignments, and performance management
The qualified candidate will have:
- BS or MS Degree in Material Science, Ceramics or Engineering and 5+ years of experience in a management or leadership role
- Seeking 10+ hands on experience in product development of ceramics or glass, experience with Zirconia is a plus
- CAD/CAM experience with Solidworks and 3D modeling preferred
- Results oriented, “can do” leader with a passion for R&D and product innovations
- Must be a visionary, product development experience from ideation to commercialization
- Experience managing a portfolio of products and presenting new product ideas
- Able to assess and make changes to direction and staff quickly
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate and interact with multiple cultures and backgrounds
- Ability to make executive level decisions, presentations and recommendations to Sr Management and various partnerships
